I wrote “He Has Overcome” during a trip to the North Carolina mountains one spring. Looking out at the mountain peaks and how massive they were, I was struck by how massive and powerful God is. As impressive as the mountains are, they are an insignificant speck of dust in relation to the whole universe. And still God knows every little detail about me and hears every prayer I utter. I just can’t truly wrap my brain around that. What a great God!

Christian Music Industry Sacred vs. Secular

I have to give my wife most of the credit for “Cover Me.” I had just recently started writing some songs and she told me that she had these two lines that she couldn’t get out of her head. “Cover me with Your love, cover me with your grace.” She could sing them to me, but hadn’t taken the time to sit down and come up with anything to go with them. After she finally got around to writing some more lyrics, I made a few additions and corrections and the song was done.

Do you know anybody that is always chasing that next big thing? I know several people like that. They grab ahold of the latest fad or get-rich-quick scheme or hobby and they are really excited and happy – for a little while. The next time you see them they are miserable about their lives again. Or maybe some crisis has hit and they don’t know how they are going to get through. But soon they have found something else to give their life “meaning” and they are riding high again and then down and back up and down and back up on the vicious roller coaster. Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

trust“Help Me to Trust” was the first song that I wrote for my band, Franciso Road. My family was going through a pretty big transitional period at the time. We were searching for a new church for the first time in my life. In addition, the background reasons that we were looking for a new church were such that I was asking God a lot of “why” questions. I wanted to trust that He was leading me on a journey for a good reason, but I couldn’t see it at the time. All I could see was a lot of unanswered questions and an uncertain future.
