My wife and I moved our youngest daughter into her dorm room at Appalachian State University a couple of days ago. The room she was assigned is very nice and as you can see from this picture, there is a large window that overlooks campus. We were commenting on how great the view was and how it would be nice to watch the sun rise and set from their room when my son Jacob came over and said, “What view? That hill is in the way!”

I was listening the other day to a podcast about worship produced by James MacDonald and his Vertical Church Conference. I highly recommend you take the 24 minutes to listen to it sometime – you can find it by clicking here.
We survived Starting Point 2017 Music Camp! This was our second one at Pleasant Garden Baptist and I think we improved a lot of things based on lessons learned with the first one last year. I want to thank all of those that prayed for us and for me through this process. This is an intense four days (and really five if you count the set-up and last minute to-do’s that we take care of the day before) – running from 8 in the morning until 6 in the evening. I consider it a “local” short-term mission trip because it really dominates all of your attention and energy during those days just like an overseas mission trip does. I need to apologize to a lot of folks whose emails I ignored or I forgot to follow up with during that week. Rest assured, I was doing something important.
The smart aleck in me wants to start this post by saying that the best moment of music camp was….the end! But that’s not true. We had a great time at music camp this year. I may write a more detailed post on the camp a little later and I’m hoping to post a video that shows a lot of pictures that were taken during the week, but I did want to share the best moment of this year’s camp.
By the time this post gets sent to the email boxes of my subscribers, we will be starting up our second annual Starting Point music camp at Pleasant Garden Baptist Church. For those that have not heard about this event, it is a four day camp for middle school aged students to learn about Jesus, worship, music, and a particular instrument. Kids can come to camp with absolutely no experience on an instrument and by the end of the camp will be playing in a band and will even participate in a competition to see which band does the best job. We have classes for guitar (acoustic and electric), drums, keyboards, bass guitar, and vocals.
