Just a quick note to let everyone know that my family will be leading worship and sharing a mini-concert this Sunday night at Pleasant Garden Baptist Church in Pleasant Garden. I am really looking forward to sharing the platform with my wife and children as we lead three worship songs and four specials during the regular Sunday evening service. I hope that it will be a blessing to everyone there and you are welcome to attend! For more information on PGBC and their services, visit their website.

In six weeks, I will be on my way to Jamaica on a mission trip! Plans are being finalized and financial support is coming in as well. Thanks to all of you who have contributed to this mission – God is providing for His work to be accomplished!

God has taught me (and continues to teach me) many great spiritual truths through fatherhood. One of the biggest things He has taught me is that how I want my kids to trust me is how He wants me to trust Him. As I’m sure every parent knows, kids are full of questions. They often want to know what’s going to happen that night or tomorrow; they will show concern over the future, and it’s hard for a parent to take the time to explain everything out (and even then they are often not convinced) and so the parent might say, “just trust me – everything is going to be okay.”

Various things and circumstances had led us to that place, and after 37 years we set out to look for a new church home. The church we were leaving was full of sweet people and remains very dear to our hearts. It was a small family church and no one took the decision harder than my dear mother.

This past Sunday we served lunch after church to raise money for our upcoming music mission trip to Jamaica. The top left picture above is a picture of “Cabbage Salad,” a popular Jamaican dish that is delicious. I came early Sunday morning and helped make this – mostly by cutting up heads of cabbage. When I went into the service that morning, I asked my wife to make sure I didn’t smell too bad! (Maybe I should ask that every week!) The top right picture is several of the choir members helping us serve the meal, which also included peas (really kidney beans) and rice and jerk chicken. The bottom picture shows everyone enjoying their Jamaican meal. All donations received (about $2200 at last count) will go to purchasing instruments in Jamaica that we will donate to the churches we are helping there.
