I believe in most everyone’s life, there are a handful of people outside that person’s family that have a profound effect on them and the direction their life takes. For many, it’s a teacher or a youth leader or a best friend. Ralph Strickland was one of those people in my life. He’s probably the number one reason why I am in the job I am in today and is certainly the reason why I do my job the way that I do it. Ralph passed away last Saturday evening at the age of 69 and I am glad that he was my friend.

One of the songs I’m working on for my upcoming EP release is entitled “Worthy.” The idea for the song came from the various songs set out in the book of Revelation that the angels, saints, and other beings sing around the throne of God in heaven. The words of those songs are combined in “Worthy” to make what I hope is a meaningful song of worship for us here on Earth.
As I mentioned in the previous post in this series, I consider the song “written” when I’ve got the lyrics, melody, and chords figured out. Often the song will then sit for a while as I work on other songs. Usually it isn’t until I have all the songs for a particular project written that I will go back and look at those songs again. At this point, it’s time for the most difficult part of the process for me: putting the band together.
I have some news I wanted to share with those of you who follow this blog – this past weekend I finished writing the final song for my next album release! There is a lot of work left to do but the lyrics, melodies, and chords are done for six songs which I plan to release early in 2015 as an EP. It’s not titled yet but I’ll let you know when I come up with one. This will be the first album released under my name (the other two I’ve contributed to were Francisco Road albums) so I’m excited about that.
