Tonight marks a bit of a milestone for me. Our worship pastor is out of town on a much deserved vacation and asked me to lead worship for the six o’clock service tonight. Years ago, there was a time where I led worship on a weekly basis, but now I get to stand in the back row and play my bass guitar without having to be in charge. Tonight will be the first time I have led a worship service at Pleasant Garden.

After all of the parts are recorded, the process called “mixing” begins. Although this is a process much too complicated to try and explain in a simple blog post, the mixing process refers to taking the individually recorded tracks and “mixing” them into a song so that all of the instruments and vocals work and blend together. I am still learning a lot about this area, but one of the people who has taught me a lot is Graham Cochrane of The Recording Revolution. One of the things he says we should be looking for in a great mix is that if the parents of all of the instrumentalists were in the studio, they should all be able to pick out their child’s instrument in the song.
One of the books I read to go along with my study of the book of Psalms was Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s Psalms: The Prayer Book of the Bible. I want to share a small chapter of that book with you because my own experience has taught me how true his words are here. I cannot commend enough to you the benefits of starting your day with prayer.
Just a quick note to let you know about the upcoming Christmas programs at Pleasant Garden Baptist Church that I will be participating in.
