This morning, we left bright and early for Fairview Camp (which didn’t have power) where we divided the campers into two teams for a worship service building competition.  Each team will build a 20-minute worship service that will be presented on Friday morning.  One team has the theme of God’s Forgiveness and the other has God’s love.  Our team is also divided up to help each team by providing ideas, some scripture, and a drama for them to do.  They will all have to participate and the competition aspect of it gets them really motivated.  The underlying focus of this exercise is to encourage them to find their fit where they can serve in their churches.

Found an old friend when I got to the camp today: the bass guitar I brought down last year and gave to my best student.  This was the first bass guitar I ever owned and the one I learned to play with.  My student from last year was there at camp as a camp leader and let me play it for our morning worship set.  It was really a great answer to prayer for it to show up when I needed it.

The first part of the day was a trip from Kingston to Ocho Rios where we took a couple of hours to climb the Dunn River Falls.  The water was cold, which was really refreshing.

Sunday was a full day of ministry in Kingston.  Our team played for worship and Pastor David preached the message in the morning.  Our worship set was about 2 1/2 times the length that I’m used to but that was perfectly okay with me.  There are so many talented musicians on our team that they are fun to play with and the worship times are the best part of the trip for me.  We also did a Sunday School class after worship where we talked about the importance of daily time with God and how to best accomplish that.

On day 2, we set out to teach worship leaders and some novice instrumentalists as much as we could about music.  We had a great worship time in the morning (we have some really talented people on this mission team, which makes the worship times that much more fun.)  After that, we divided into classes.  I had three guys in my class that had never played bass guitar before and by the end of the day, they had played a complete worship song with a very basic bass line.  More than that, I believe that they learned enough of the fundamentals that they can now go and build their skill after I am gone and with practice can become really solid bassists.  Christina taught a keyboard class and had a lot of fun as you can see from this picture.
