As I type this, we are making our way back across the island to catch our flight out of Montego Bay. On Sunday, we led worship at Havenhill Baptist again and then had to say a quick farewell to three of our team members who were flying out early. A restful afternoon was followed with a praise and worship concert at Cedar Grove Baptist in nearby Portmore. It was a wonderful way to close out the trip by singing nine or ten worship songs. As I reflect on the trip, I have so much to be thankful for:
On day 2, we set out to teach worship leaders and some novice instrumentalists as much as we could about music. We had a great worship time in the morning (we have some really talented people on this mission team, which makes the worship times that much more fun.) After that, we divided into classes. I had three guys in my class that had never played bass guitar before and by the end of the day, they had played a complete worship song with a very basic bass line. More than that, I believe that they learned enough of the fundamentals that they can now go and build their skill after I am gone and with practice can become really solid bassists. Christina taught a keyboard class and had a lot of fun as you can see from this picture.
Hello from Jamaica! I am posting from the lovely home of our Jamaican host family but you will not see it right away because there is no internet connection here. There is also no air conditioning, which is not at all unusual in Kingston. We were spoiled to have it at night during our stay in Montego Bay and we will be back there next week, but for now I am having flashbacks to 30 years ago when I was growing up. We didn’t have central air then and I remember sleeping with the windows open every night. The view here is gorgeous, though, as we are up on a mountain looking down on the city lights.
