As I wrote in my last post, the 2019 version of Worship Band Camp was great! There were lots of highlights through the week, but here are three that stood out:

Starting Point Music Camp Worship Band Camp

Worship Band Camp 2019 is in the books!  One of my favorite weeks of the year, Worship Camp takes rising 5th to 10th graders and teaches them to play instruments in a worship band.  Even if the student has never picked up the instrument before, they will be playing pretty successfully in a worship band by the end of the camp.  This was our 4th year and some of our kids have been with us long enough that we are running out of stuff to teach them!  But they help pour into the younger campers and that is great to see.

Starting Point Music Camp

We survived Starting Point 2017 Music Camp! This was our second one at Pleasant Garden Baptist and I think we improved a lot of things based on lessons learned with the first one last year. I want to thank all of those that prayed for us and for me through this process. This is an intense four days (and really five if you count the set-up and last minute to-do’s that we take care of the day before) – running from 8 in the morning until 6 in the evening. I consider it a “local” short-term mission trip because it really dominates all of your attention and energy during those days just like an overseas mission trip does. I need to apologize to a lot of folks whose emails I ignored or I forgot to follow up with during that week. Rest assured, I was doing something important.

Starting Point Music Camp

The smart aleck in me wants to start this post by saying that the best moment of music camp was….the end! But that’s not true. We had a great time at music camp this year. I may write a more detailed post on the camp a little later and I’m hoping to post a video that shows a lot of pictures that were taken during the week, but I did want to share the best moment of this year’s camp.

Starting Point Music Camp

By the time this post gets sent to the email boxes of my subscribers, we will be starting up our second annual Starting Point music camp at Pleasant Garden Baptist Church. For those that have not heard about this event, it is a four day camp for middle school aged students to learn about Jesus, worship, music, and a particular instrument. Kids can come to camp with absolutely no experience on an instrument and by the end of the camp will be playing in a band and will even participate in a competition to see which band does the best job. We have classes for guitar (acoustic and electric), drums, keyboards, bass guitar, and vocals.
