“Help Me to Trust” was the first song that I wrote for my band, Franciso Road. My family was going through a pretty big transitional period at the time. We were searching for a new church for the first time in my life. In addition, the background reasons that we were looking for a new church were such that I was asking God a lot of “why” questions. I wanted to trust that He was leading me on a journey for a good reason, but I couldn’t see it at the time. All I could see was a lot of unanswered questions and an uncertain future.

Unafraid is really the song that the “Fear Not” album revolves around and flows from. I wrote the song from idea sparked from a single line in a song from Tenth Avenue North called “Strong Enough to Save.” The line says, “Fear is just a lie.” I had never really thought of fear that way – as a lie – and therefore, as sin. It is sinful to fear because God has not given us a spirit of fear. Although I didn’t see this video before writing Unafraid, Mike Donehey (lead singer for Tenth Avenue North) explains why he used that lyric:
