Tomorrow is the big day! Going to wake up bright and early so I can be at the church at 4:30 AM to catch a ride to the airport and then a flight to Jamaica. I’m fairly certain I won’t be able to sleep much tonight anyway because of the excitement, and I have never been able to sleep much in a car or a plane, so I’m hopeful that a few extra doses of caffeine will get me through what will be a long day. We will hit the ground running tomorrow afternoon and leap right into performing and teaching at a Worship Leader’s Conference near Montego Bay.

In six weeks, I will be on my way to Jamaica on a mission trip! Plans are being finalized and financial support is coming in as well. Thanks to all of you who have contributed to this mission – God is providing for His work to be accomplished!

This past Sunday we served lunch after church to raise money for our upcoming music mission trip to Jamaica. The top left picture above is a picture of “Cabbage Salad,” a popular Jamaican dish that is delicious. I came early Sunday morning and helped make this – mostly by cutting up heads of cabbage. When I went into the service that morning, I asked my wife to make sure I didn’t smell too bad! (Maybe I should ask that every week!) The top right picture is several of the choir members helping us serve the meal, which also included peas (really kidney beans) and rice and jerk chicken. The bottom picture shows everyone enjoying their Jamaican meal. All donations received (about $2200 at last count) will go to purchasing instruments in Jamaica that we will donate to the churches we are helping there.

Jamaica Mission

map-jamaicaI am so excited to announce that I will be going to Jamaica in early August on a mission trip centered around worship music! Together with a team from my church, Pleasant Garden Baptist, and our Minister of Music David Loftis, I am going to an area near Montego Bay to train local church musicians. We’ll help them in a week of camp, where they will build musical skills and share worship concepts. Later in the week we will lead outreach events in local neighborhoods with them and assist Pastor Loftis with a Worship Leader’s Conference and concert in Montego Bay at a new church plant in the uptown area of the city. You can read more information about previous trips on David’s website: Teach412.Com.
